Volunteers

A fundamental element to PAAH is the amount of dedicated volunteers that have enlisted with the organisation – approximately 280. We rely heavily on this dedication as our volunteers provide stimulation, one-on-one interaction, and in some instances professional services including paediatric care and physiotherapy.

In accordance with the newly implemented structure, the local volunteers are now allocated specific roles and responsibilities in and around the Home, ranging from maintenance to fundraising. With regards to tightened legislation, the volunteers now require police clearances and security cards to become volunteers and for access into the site.

To expand the existing volunteer agenda, PAAH has begun its own international volunteer programme. This has allowed us access to international funding and skills transfer, as well as resource-based partnerships. We create the opportunity for these volunteers to experience South African culture and exposure to South African social and human rights issues, such as poverty and HIV/AIDS, among others.
