Omamo Bethu
(Isixhosa meaning "Our Mothers")
Goal:
To provide safety, shelter, emotional support, skills development, economic empowerment and a healthy lifestyle to young pregnant mothers.
Also placed in our care by Johannesburg Child Welfare Society, these girls are mostly between the ages of 14 – 18 and are either destitute or in crisis. In most cases, they stay at the Home for a period of approximately three months or until their gestation period has ended. We do not receive any funding for the accommodation of these ladies.
During their stay, the girls are counseled in life skills and trained in aspects of craftwork ranging from beading to cooking. They also assist with the memory book project.
